The Forest Preserves of Cook County’s nearly 70,000 acres of woodlands, prairies and wetlands provide endless, year-round opportunities to get outside, exercise, and make a meaningful difference in your community
No matter if you’re deeply familiar with your local preserve or want to start getting out in nature, we have a volunteer opportunity for you or your group. Everyone is welcome in the Forest Preserves!
Individuals can explore different types of volunteer activities on the Programs page. Click on Opportunities to view upcoming volunteer events in a list or calendar format. Register for in-person, virtual, and on-demand classes on the Trainings page. Youth can find information on available volunteer opportunities at the Youth Volunteers page. Parents/guardians, see how to register with a minor.
Groups of volunteers can choose between a Litter Cleanup or Ecological Stewardship Day. For more information, visit our Group Volunteering page. If transportation is a limiting factor for your group, check out the Volunteer Voyager bus grant program.
Community, SNAP, or Court-Ordered Service. Visit our Community Service page for more information on how to earn service hours and request a service letter.
